Signs You Have The Wrong Health Insurance Plan

Having a health insurance plan is important. But, having the right health insurance plan is even more pivotal. Unfortunately so many people rush the buying process when it comes to medical insurance and end up going for the first half decent policy they lay their eyes on or they go for the cheapest policy they can find. This is undoubtedly the wrong path to take. Read on to discover some of the key signs that you need to change your health insurance plan.

You avoid seeing a doctor at all costs

What is the point in having a health insurance plan if you do not make the most of it? If your excess is too high then you may avoid the doctor because you are unable to pay the minimum amount required before the insurer covers your treatment.

You worry when you travel

If you are a frequent traveller and you worry whenever you go away this is a sign that you have the wrong insurance plan. The best thing to do to combat this is to purchase a credible worldwide health insurance policy. International medical insurance guarantees that you are covered irrespective of where you are. Whether you are travelling for business or leisure you know that you will be covered should anything go wrong and you require treatment.

There are cost barriers

There are two types of cost hurdles that could get in your way. The first is that you cannot afford to pay your monthly premiums. The second is that you cannot afford the excess, i.e. the amount you will have to pay should you need treatment. If you cannot afford the excess the insurer will not cover any of your medical expenses. If either of these applies to you, you need to reassess the payment structure of your policy.

Your policy makes your life more difficult

This is often the case with health insurance plans that are out of date because providers have not made an effort to keep up with the times. Today, you should be able to manage your health insurance plan online with ease. You should also be able to carry out a range of different tasks online too, for example, you should be able to order an NHS repeat prescription online with ease. If your policy has become more of a hindrance, rather than a help, you know it is time to look for something else.

You don’t know if you are covered for certain things

This is a trap that so many people fall into. You would not believe how many of us pay for insurance and don't really know what we are getting in return. There is no excuse for this. You should feel confident that you know exactly when you will be covered and when you won’t be. If a company is ambiguous on purpose, it is probably best to look for a different insurance plan instead.

You would go to a different doctor if you could

Last but not least, the whole point of medical insurance is to ensure you get access to the best healthcare. If you would choose a different doctor but cannot because they are not in the network of hospitals and doctors covered by your plan, this is a sign that your policy is not adequate enough. When you are paying money for the likes of global medical insurance you need to be sure you are reaping the true rewards.

As you can see, there are many different signs that indicate you could have taken out a health insurance plan that is not right for you. If you have noticed any of the signals that have been discussed above, there is no need to panic or make any rash decisions. You simply need to find out when you can change provider and you need to start looking for a company and a policy that is better suited to you. This will give you great peace of mind, especially if you have a thorough understanding of the terms and conditions, knowing exactly when you will and will not be covered.

Why can't these things be simple. I think people struggle as there are so many different policies to choose from.

We don't have medical insurance. We just use the NHS as we have had no problems with them.A few members of my family have private medical insurance though. It can be quite useful at times.

So true! Cost barriers and excesses are red flags for me but it's easy to just not want to rock the boat and stick with what you have but this article had made me think again - thank you.

This post makes me so glad that I live in the UK. It must be so hard to have to navigate health insurance for something that is a basic human right.

I can't imagine what it must be like when you have to worry about going to the doctors.

It must be so scary to have to worry about paying medical fees etc and whether or not you can even afford to go to the doctors!

I don't have health insurance but it's something that I keep seeing advertised to me because I have two kids. It's something I really need to look into.
