Bagged mixed salad leaves has been linked to the recent E-coli outbreak affecting more than 100 people across the UK. Symptoms of E-Coli include nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Particular strains can be even more nasty and cause anaemia and kidney failure.
It is extremely important to wash salad ingredients and fruit properly and for extra safety using a sterilisation fluid ensures removal of all contaminants.
A three step cleaning method is recommend:
1. Wash the fruit/vegetables with clear water removing all visible dirt 2. Prepare a solution using just 1ml (20 drops) of Milton Sterilising Fluid per litre of water and immerse food in solution for 15 minutes 3. Rinse with cold water Food hygiene expert, Sylvia Anderson reminds us that “salad vegetable are one of the biggest causes of food poisoning, for a more rigorous cleanse, leave vegetables to soak for 15 minutes with a sterilising solution (such as Milton)”
I have teamed up with Milton to giveaway 2 bottles of sterilising solution to 1 lucky winner. To enter simply complete the Rafflecopter form below by 20th August 2016. T&C'S apply. Good Luck!
