This week I have mainly been thinking about pancakes. We were at my In Laws for Shrove Tuesday so after an initial OMG panic we moved pancake day to Wednesday. This had the added benefit of being a non-nursery day so Little E and I could enjoy pancake making in the relative calm of the daytime. Last year was the first time I made pancakes with Little E. She had just turned two and it was a complete disaster which ended in kitchen apocalypse, Little E in the bath and zero pancakes. Since then we have improved on this and actually made savoury pancakes for lunch back in the summer. This year we decided to make sweet pancakes again, because let's face it, pancakes should always be about sugar... Mum is staying with us at the moment to help out whilst I am recovering from the C section so she was roped in to help Little E with the mixing. We then fried and flipped and ate them warm with squirty cream and mixed berries. Really delicious and fun tea! Later on Husband came home and had his pancakes smothered in Nutella and chopped banana like a giant child! This post is linked to #WotW, #binkylinky and #PoCoLo linkys on twitter

Two weeks ago Little I entered the world looking the picture of perfect health. The midwives all said she had a lovely colour. In the car on the way home two days later I couldn't help but notice something odd about her, she looked rather yellow... The following day the midwife confirmed my suspicions. Little I was jaundice. By the weekend it had gotten so bad it looked like I had spray tanned my baby. Visitors all said 'isn't she a lovely colour' or 'doesn't she look healthy!' at which point I had to explain that healthy glow was actually her liver playing up... Come on, no way Husband and I can produce kids with that colouring, with his ginger genes they are destined to get sunburnt just looking out the window. Neonatal jaundice occurs in six out of ten newbies and is caused by excess bilirubin in the blood stream. Bilirubin is a byproduct of the breakdown of fetal haemoglobin and the immature newborn liver often struggles to filter these dead red blood cell out of the body. By two to three weeks the liver matures and the jaundice clears up as the filtering finishes. Fast forward and Little I is over two weeks old. The jaundice should have passed by now but it is still hanging about. We can't be signed off until she is pink. She spends most of her days sunbathing in front of the window (phototherapy) and I have to make sure she feeds regularly to help flush her kidneys. Tomorrow we find out if she has officially graduated from yellow to pink. It is going to be touch and go! This post is linked to the #TheThemeGame over on twitter Last week a big box arrived from kid's craft suppliers Baker Ross. Inside was a veritable feast of arts and crafts materials for Little E to try out. This morning she was given free reign to choose an activity from the box. After much deliberation she decided on a foam treasure chest kit. As expected Little E chose to build the pink chest. The kit is designed for slightly older children (the website says 5yrs+) so I helped her construct the chest which was very easy as it slots together like a jigsaw. Little E then had free reign to decorate with the sticky back foam shapes. The only thing we didn't do there and then was stick the sequins on as Little E wanted to play with it straight away. The result looked great and Little E was really pleased with it. The instruction sheet has become her treasure map and the foam leftovers the treasure! This is a great little kit and fantastic value for money as we still have another chest to make another day! Treadure chest foam lots (contains two treasure chests) £2.95 from Baker Ross This post is linked to the #letkidsbekids, #creativechallenge and #minicreations linkys over on twitter. This kit was sent to review free of charge but all opinions are our own. Sleep... That is all I want to do... Little I seems to want more and more milk making her feeding sessions during the night longer and my sleep shorter. I'm lucky of she goes 3hrs and then spends at least an hour, if not more feeding. It would be fine if the toddler didn't then wake up at 7am full of energy and an overwhelming need to kiss the baby (waking the baby). I can't believe how much harder it is with two... Despite Little I turning two weeks yesterday she is still jaundice so we haven't been signed off from the midwife yet. She put on 40g in 4 days last week so she has nearly regained all of the 100g she lost after birth. We are going through a stupid amount of nappies a day as she poos constantly and I refuse to leave her in a dirty happy for more than ten minutes. Last night we did six happy changes in an hour and a half... My C section scar isn't feeling great at one end where they tied off my stitches so I'm generally really uncomfortable and attempting a trip out in the car was a mistake as every bump hurt more than the last. Luckily switching feeding positions from rugby ball to cross body seems to be helping my cracked nipples and my boobs are being emptied so regularly they ache but that is better than them feeling like they may explode! The health visitor is coming today and I am excited to see how much weight she has put on and get her red book - If i'm still awake when she arrives! One of Little E's favourite activities is bath time. She can spend hours playing with little more than a sponge and her imagination. Yesterday we gave Little I her first bath, in the sink. Such a simple thing to do but we were so excited to get her ready and dip her in! Little I seemed very happy in there and even managed a few splashy kicks. The first bath signifies the beginning of a routine we hope she enjoys as much as Little E and soon they will be able to play together, with Little E calling the shots we are sure! But we do hope our newbie doesn't make such a fuss about washing her hair... Fast forward a decade or so and we'll have to battle to get into the bathroom with two teenage girls on our hands. Plans for an additional shower room are already being drawn up! This post is linked to {The ordinary moments} over at www.mummydaddyandmemakesthree.co.uk So we are officially a family of four! A photo of all of us together has been taken by my bestie but I don't have a copy yet so I'll unveil that next week. Instead I am sharing my favourite photo of the past week - my two babies asleep together :-) Link your favourite family photo of the week each Friday on Twitter via @oneformybaby12 #FamilyPhotoFriday and monthly via @dear_beautiful_ #meandmine |
