Picture - The Art of the Larder competition
If you are a wannabe chef like me you know the importance of a well stocked larder. And now there is a fantastic new book, The Art of the Larder by Claire Thomson (Quadrille, £20), to help us master the art of storecupboard management to help us cook more exciting meals. Keep reading for your chance to win a copy!
For chef Claire Thomson, the larder, storecupboard, pantry, cupboard or shelf - whatever you call it - epitomizes the nuts and bolts that facilitate good home cooking. A full storecupboard is an empowering thing and the possibility of cooking something from anything is entirely achievable. Variation is essential but wisdom to know how to stock it is the key.

In her new book, THE ART OF THE LARDER: Good Food from your Storecupboard Every Day, Claire encourages a storecupboard state of mind, building your given space with the right pantry ingredients and using this culinary framework to help you cook more creatively, thriftily and with greater ease. Inspired by recipes from around the world, using spices, grains, pulses, fermented goods, various ours, cured meats, Claire’s superbly curated dishes are to be used in conjunction with fresh meat and fish and fruit and vegetables for ultimate culinary satisfaction.

The Art of the Larder is available from Amazon now but you could win a copy by entering my competition by completing the Rafflecopter form below by 30th November 2017. T&C's apply Good Luck!

We're vegetarian so the ultimate staple in our house is dried pulses and beans. If no time to soak overnight they can be done in the pressure cooker in no time.

Tinned tomatoes. I would be lost without them. From Spag Bol to Curry and fry-ups to pizza topping and dips they are so useful, especially in the winter when fresh tomatoes are a bit flavourless

We use lots of dried pulses in our house as we eat lots of Indian food - lentils, chick peas, split peas and some kinds that don't have English names such as toor dahl.
