Weaning essentials

Over the last couple of months Little I has been loving her new food adventures as we wean her onto solids. She has taken to food amazingly well and is the definition of a hungry baby. I am sharing some of my favourite weaning essentials helping make the first foray into food a little bit easier.

OXO Tot Divided feeding dish and On the go feeding spoon. From £4.50

I wean using a combination of baby led weaning techniques and traditional spoon feeding. It is a personal choice and it works for us and makes baby very flexible when it comes to mealtimes. Each meal consists of some spooned purée food followed by some finger foods. So a good bowl and spoon is essential.

I like the OXO Tot products because the design is really clever. The Divided dish is great because you can feed two different foods easily from the same bowl and the silicone ring makes scraping excess food from the spoon a doddle. The lid fits really securely allowing you to store leftovers without mess - a godsend when out and about. The On the go feeding spoon is perfectly contoured for feeding baby and comes with a handy box so you can keep it (and the rest of your bag) clean. Both are dishwasher safe and you can pop the dish in the microwave.

Chicco Pocket Snack travel booster seat highchair £29.99

Highchairs in restaurants are a bit hit and miss. Most are inappropriate for little babies and often have straps missing. And don't even get me started on how dirty they usually are. So for us a travel highchair is absolutely essential.

As part of the Chicco Tested for Happiness blogger programme we were sent the Pocket Snack to test and it has been a godsend. The mini highchair collapses flat and easily fits in our pram basket. It straps very securely to a chair using adjustable straps underneath the seat and around the back. The velco tabs allow you to easily tidy the straps when not in use. There is a detachable tray which acts as a mini table or it can be pushed right up to the table and the 3 adjustable height settings mean baby can sit at the perfect height.

I cannot praise this product highly enough. We use it everywhere and we get so many comments from other parents when using it. Little I loves being up at the same height as us and the little tray acts as her own little table.

Tesco Loves Baby Wide neck gripper bottle £1.90

Along with introducing food comes cooled boiled water. Lots of fun for baby to pour all over the highchair and spray water fountains!

Little I has been struggling to hold a sippy cup high enough for these early stages we have tried this Tesco wide neck gripper bottle to help her to independently drink water. It has really helped the transition to a cup.

And finally this fun graphic from Tesco Loves Baby includes loads of interesting stats about weaning out little ones! We are yet to try cod and cornflakes...

Some of the products above were sent to us for review purposes but all opinions are our own.
