It is Father's Day this weekend and my Dad is super hard to buy for. But he loves wine. Enter the Wine List. Now, I admit not a massive wine fan but my Dad is. In fact he's a proper wine lover. So the Wine List appeared in my inbox just at the right time to peak my interest - let's see what's on offer from the latest entry to the subscription box market. The Wine List is a discovery and education focused wine subscription box. As you'd expect each month you recieve some wine but this isn't your cheap case of budget plonk, you get 2 hand picked bottles (usually one red and one white) each retailing in the £15-30 bracket plus informative and interactive wine tasting cards to lead you through the experience of trying a new vino. My box contained a 2018 Massaya White from Lebanon and a 2019 Argentinian Cara Sucia which is a tinto red - perfect for light chilling according to the tasting notes which peaked Husband's interest as he loves cold red wine (I know, he's a heathen). The Wine List pick wines from unusual regions and lesser known grapes - so you are on a genuine journey of discovery. If you fall in love with a wine you can order more via the Wine List surplus wine page while stocks last! If you are worried abou buy wine in the post don't be - the bottles were extremely well packed so no chance you'd lose a drop in transit. The wine was accompanied by our first Wine Roots tasting guide. The 12 month course teaches the fundamental principles of wine including:
You have a tasting notes card for each bottle where you can record the characteristics and aroma profile of the wines. On the reverse of the card you'll find information and trivia on the wines which give a deeper understanding of the methods and regions of production. Side note the card is lovely, thick matt card stock which looks and feels lovely. In addition to what comes in the box each month you also get access to the Wine List Community. This includes access to supermarket wine tasting notes, monthly tasting notes videos with the founder Josh Lachkovic and soon there will be a digital community of wine lovers to share notes and tips with. So how much is this box of wine glory - £39 a month. When you think that's basically the cost of the two bottles of wine you get a lot of extras and plenty of education for your money. The Wine List is also super flexible so you can cancel or skip deliveries at any time. Find out more at thewinelist.net I was sent a sample of The Wine List for review purposes but all opinions are my own.
