Finding a great family car can be challenging due to the long list of needs from different members of the family. For starters, and probably the most obvious, the car has to be spacious enough to fit the adults, the kids, plus everyone's luggage. Yes, my daughter really does need to take her fancy dress wardrobe with her everywhere she goes. Then you need to think of safety. As family car shoppers you are are naturally safety-minded as you are carrying the most precious of cargo - your children. Make sure you look for a car with the highest Overall Safety Rating available in its class which also includes some advanced safety features. Your family car is bound to take long trips from time to time so you need to think about convenience and comfort features too like a smooth ride and comfy seats to keep the family happy and relaxed while on the move. This list of the best family cars features these key elements while still offering great value.

Skoda Kodiaq

The Skoda Kodiaq is a 5-seater SUV, but a little extra cash can get you a third row of child-sized seats. It comes with a roomy cabin and a big boot to fit in everyone's stuff during family holidays. The cabin is also well-built to withstand the demanding conditions of family life. When it comes to technology, the Skoda Kodiaq comes with an infotainment system that's easy and intuitive to read and use. Its wide range of economical engines means it's pretty cheap to run, while the standard passive suspension makes it comfortable and relaxing to drive, particularly at cruising speeds.

Mercedes E-Class Estate

Mercedes is known for skillfully blending luxury, style, and space (our family car is a Mercedes so I can voucher for this!). The Mercedes E-Class Estate comes with a huge boot enough to hold eight carry-on travel cases. The back seats can comfortably accommodate three tall passengers. This classy car comes with rear air suspension, a standard feature in all models, which makes it very relaxing to drive. The elegant interior design of the E-Class Estate is unmatched but this luxurious car can be quite costly. This doesn't mean you have to miss out on all it has to offer. Let www.intelligentcarleasing.com help you hire this stylish car, and make your family road trip unforgettable.

Ford Focus

While it may look similar to the old models, the current Ford Focus offers a quiet ride and attractive interior, confident handling, and lots of high-tech options, including large-screened infotainment systems and a range of independent driving aids. It also offers more rear-seat passenger space, and a bigger boot, all of which make for a great family car.

BMW X3

The BMW X3 is a well-rounded SUV with good performance. This compact luxury crossover SUV comes packed with high-tech infotainment features, a well-built cabin, enough space for the family, and a boot that can easily hold everyone's luggage. If you have a bigger budget, you can get advanced features like the adaptive suspension, cool gesture controls, etc. But it's still an excellent family car even with standard features.

Peugeot 3008

The Peugeot 3008 comes with the styling of an SUV without compromising on space. It has enough room for three adults in the back and a flat floor that allows the middle passenger to stretch out comfortably. Even though you don't get a four-wheel drive option with this SUV, it comes with a grip control feature that will help you in snowy or icy conditions. Other key elements that make it a great family car include the frugal engine options and a comfortable and quiet ride.

What family car do you drive and would you recommend it?

I have always had Vauxhalls which I am quite happy with. I am eyeing up the Vauxhall Moka as my next car :)

We don't have a car. There are a few situations where I've wished we had one, but mostly we get by fine on foot and by public transport. Traffic and parking are a nightmare in Edinburgh, so we are probably better off without one anyway.

We have a Skoda Octavia and absolutely love it! The boot size is huge and it drives really well.

I think every family will have their own needs for a car, for us I need something with a decent boot space and is economical as I do a lot of miles for work.

Most definitely the new Peugeot 3008 suv. Oh my gosh! I love this as a family car. It’s beautiful inside and well as out, and the digital dash is sooo good. Love using AirPlay on long journeys.

We have a Kia Sportage and highly recommend! It’s exactly what we needed when we wanted a new family car.
