Sun Safety Advice from Nivea Sun and Cancer Research UK

22/6/2017

After the week of scorching heat we can certainly say Summer has arrived! But while the sun brings fun but it also brings danger and protecting our family's skin is top of the agenda on sunny days. I've teamed up with Nivea Sun and Cancer Research UK to bring you some top sun safety tips and test out some family friendly suncreams to avoid tears and tantrums!
Picture
The best advice is to take C.A.R.E this summer by following these simple tips:

C - Cover up

Make sure children are covered up when the sun is strong. Long sleeve tops, wide brimmed hats protect the vulnerable shoulders, arms and face while sunglasses protect their eyes. If going to the beach try a UV sun suit which covers more of the body.

A - Aim for the shade

The sun is hottest in the UK between 11am and 3pm so try and spend these hours indoors or in the shade. If you do plan on taking a walk or going to the park try to aim to go first thing or in the late afternoon.

R - Rub on the sunscreen

Use sun creams generously and at least factor 15. Also take note of the star rating which shows you how effective at blocking the suns rays the product is. Keep reading for my review of Nivea Sun's kids range!

E - Enjoy!

And after you've prepped you and your family then enjoy your time in the sun!
I do love trying out different sunscreens and Nivea Sun sent us some of their family sunscreen range to try out. During the blasing sunshine this week we have been trialling the Kids Caring Roll On, Kids Moisturising Sun Spray (both factor 30) and Refreshing Sun Lotion in factor 50.
Picture
The Kids absolutely love the roll on. They like to roll it all over their body then I rub it in. I think it helps that the lotion is really thin because then it rubs in so easily. It is also extra water resistant which is great for my water babies, especially on holiday when they are in and out of the pool or sea.
Picture
The sun spray also went down well as it goes on in a fun blue colour (but then rubs in without leaving a colour). My only concern is how much this would stain clothes over time as I've lost so many pale t-shirts to the sun-cream. I've noticed Nivea have launched a sun cream with clothes stain protection built in so I may have to invest in some of that!
Picture
I do prefer a super high sun factor for the kids faces so I have been using the factor 50 Refreshing Sun Lotion on their cheeks and nose for a bit of extra protection. I found it a bit thick for my liking and it was hard to rub it all in so luckily I was only using it on their faces, I think it would be a nightmare to rub it into large areas.

We haven't burnt once this week so we'll definitely be enjoying the sun this year while thoroughly dousing ourselves in Nivea Sun to keep us all safe. Let me know in the comments below if you have a favourite sunscreen and why!

I was sent the mentioned Nivea Sun products to review but all opinions are my own

it's not just the children who need to cover up, I wear factor 50 sun cream on my face, neck and shoulders every single day, but I do live in Dubai and I really need to protect my skin against the constant sun damage #pocolo

I'm all about the A this year - now. I burnt some of my back over on the allotment without realising, and it took ages to recover. Although I do have a very brown part of my back between the top of my shorts and T shirt as I bend down - but not the best look, or not worth it. Thanks for sharing with #PoCoLo

I have been smothering us all in it this year! That sun has been so intense. I just use factor 50 on me and the boys - I burn so so easily! Thanks for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday

I always use Factor 50 on the boys, usually 30 for myself. I don't tan, I burn, but you know what? I don't want to tan anyway. I'd much rather take care of mine and the boys skin. Great post. Thanks for linking to #pocolo

Exactly. It's all about safety. Sun damage when we are young is the worst kind apparently so even more reason to use high factors.
