Summer Outdoor Activities for Kids

6/7/2016

The weather looks set to turn sunny (finally) and with the summer holidays fast approaching I have teamed up with Travelbag to give you the lowdown on my top outdoor activities for kids on sunny summer days.

Park fun

This is a super, cost effective idea for capturing some of the sunshine and keeping the kids entertained for hours. Hopefully you are lucky and have a park within walking distance but if not do a bit of research and find the perfect park with apparatus suitable for the ages of your children. Be prepared for lots of pushing on the swings and why not make a day of it and take a picnic.

Fun on the farm

My kids absolutely love visiting the farm. We have four local ones which range from a proper working farm where kids get their hands dirty feeding calves to petting farms which also have soft play and outdoor playgrounds. Many farms set ups have cafes and snack bars but you'll also find designated picnic areas which can help keep the cost down as entry isn't cheap during the summer months but great for a special day out.

A ramble in the woods

Talking a walk through the woods is great fun any time of the year but on super hot days the woods can give some welcome dappled shade from the summer sun. Many woods have trails you can follow so why not turn your day out into a Gruffalo Hunt or perhaps you are going on a bear hunt!

Messing about in the garden

Sometimes staying home can be as fun as going out. A cheap paddling pool or a sprinker keeps kids cool. Add a blanket, a parasol for some shade and a few toys into the mix and you can keep the kids entertained for hours, all in your garden. It gives you the chance to catch up on some gardening - or join in the fun!

Remember it is super important that kids wear a hat on sunny days and apply suncream to exposed limbs to stop them burning. Hydration is important too so take lots of drinks with you and encourage little ones to spend time in the shade.

My kids love all these things too! I'm hoping we have a lovely dry summer so we can enjoy lots of time outdoors.
