It has been 150 years since Beatrix Potter wrote her enchanting set of stories about the world of Peter Rabbit and his friends. To celebrate a wonderful DVD Boxset has been released featuring the complete collection of the classic episodes lovingly recreating the original stories. I was sent a copy to review with my girls.
Little I is obsessed with Peter Rabbit so she was the perfect partner to test out the new collection with me. She has been poorly this week so we've had lots of time to watch all nine animated stories together. She often watches the new CBeebies version so I was excited to introduce her to the traditional animations I grew up with.
The stories begin with a live action introduction then the glorious animations start and tell the stories I remember so vividly from childhood. Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail were always my favourites of the rabbits but Little I is obsessed with Peter.
I had forgotten though just how cut-throat the stories are. In the first episode the bunnies are warned not to go into Mr McGregor's garden because Peter's Dad was caught and baked in a rabbit pie! Little I is completely petrified by Mr Tod, the sly fox who is always after Peter and his friends. So be warned they are not all tame stories and sensitive children may need to be guided through!
The box set is a beautiful collection of timeless stories and will captivate any child and transport them to a magical word. I highly recommend this DVD collection and of course the books it is based on.

We've got this collection too, it's nice to share the old style version with a new generation. It also sparked an interest in reading the books too - can't be bad :)
