Review: Chicco Oasys 2-3 Child Car Seat

22/8/2015

Little E is very tall for her age. She grew out of her Maxi Cosi Axiss (which I loved) way before the weight limit because her head was sticking out the top! For the past few months we have been trialling a new, high backed seat from Chicco which grows with your child right up to 12yrs of age. A recent crash test video has highlighted the superior performance of high back boosters vs booster pads proving how important it is to use a high back for as long as possible.

The Oasys 2-3 is a new car seat from Chicco which is suitable for children 15 to 36 kg of weight (Group 2 and 3). You can independently adjust the width and height of the seat using the adjusters to adapt to the to your growing children from about 3 to 12 years of age. The backrest can be height adjusted in 10 different positions.

After the high back, the most important feature in my opinion, is the Side Safety System which gives children added protection in case of side impact. This is a must as there can never be too much protection when it comes to our children. The width is easily adjusted to provide maximum protection using the wheel located at the back of the headrest.

The seat and backrest recline simultaneously operated with the orange recliner button on the front of the seat. It isn't a dramatic recline and Little E does still fall forward when she goes into a really deep sleep but I think this is unavoidable with seatbelt style car seats.

We have the standard model which is not anchored to the car -  the seatbelt holds the seat in place but you can buy a FixPlus model which anchors to the car via isofix giving extra stability. Both sets of Grandparents have non-isofix cars so to save buying another car seat for when the kids are staying with them we went for a non-isofix option. In both models the child is secured in the seat via the seatbelt. It is super easy to fit. You simply thread the seatbelt through the red safety lock underneath the headrest which ensures it stays in place. Then once the child is in the seat you thread the lap belt and the buckle end over the child and underneath both the arm rests (also red plastic so you can see where the belt goes) and connect the buckle.
The seat is very well padded, especially around the head and Little E is very comfortable in it. It is also very light and we had no problem taking it abroad on holiday with us. It even survived the baggage handlers!
The seat RRP's at £119 (£150 for the FixPlus) which isn't cheap compared to some other high back boosters but considering it lasts until your child is about 12yrs old it works out about £13 a year. So when you look at it that way it is not a bad investment to get some extra protection. It comes in Black or Red options.
Little E's favourite part of the seat? The cup holder! She loves it!

I too saw the crash test video. Highback boosters are defiantly a better option and this one looks great. As you mentioned the padding looks thick and your child sits nicely in it. #BigFatLinky

Great post & fairly reviewed! we are needing a bigger carseat for my little girl as she started to become a bit bigger with her existing maxi cosi one. I think I need to check this one out... #bigfatlinky

The safest is always to use the seats until they are fully outgrown before switching to a different group.
For every step up in car seat group you do, you take one step down in safety. (Unless you are using a rear facing car seat into a different group of rear facing car seat, like extended rear facing)

I completely agree. Unfortunately my daughter is very tall so her head sticks above the top of the chair way before she reaches the weight limit forcing us to switch up. We've decided to go extended rear facing until our younger daughter is 4. Thanks for stopping by!

This looks a good option for a high back booster - I like that it has a recline and that it grows with your child. Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested

Very good review! I enjoyed it. :D She seems very comfy. :D
I also just wanted to clarify that the Group 1 seats are outgrown when the tip of the ears/eyes are level with the top of the seat, so after the head pokes over you will usually still have quite a while left in them. :)
But also in Forward Facing car seats the shoulder straps must not go below the shoulder, but be just at or slightly above at all times. :)

She looks really comfy in the seat. I like that it seems to have a good belt path, that's so important in a HBB and it looks to have good SiP, the prize is also nice and affordable and it's also not a heavy HBB which is a plus. :D

If you haven't already and wish to do so, you can find this seats crash test data from the ADAC right here:

This looks very comfortable & secure. It's great that the seat grows with the child rather than having to buy more as they get bigger. #KidsCorner x

This looks like a really great seat' I think Zach is soon going to outgrow his seat so we'll be looking for a new seat sometime soon and after too seeing those crash tests, he's going to be in a high backed seat until he's 20 :) Thanks so much for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday

Great post. We've recently had to get new seats. I found it quite difficult at start but only through choice avaliable. Wish I could have read this then. Thanks for linking up with us on the #bigfatlinky hope to see you there this week

We have a high back booster too, so important isn't it? You are so right about the cost spread over the years too, so many people avoid the more expensive seats but they are an investment in your child's safety! Thanks for sharing in #KidsCorner x

Infertility is not something any woman is supposed to go through in life. I will therefore recommend that you read this. I'm Sarah Weston. I'm from Wisconsin, USA. Married for 11 years with infertility, my infertility journey has ended with the help of Lord Krish Spiritual. I have joined many infertility journey blogs online, and did IVF for 2 years. I searched for solutions to my problem and never relented which has helped me to find the right connection to help me cure this devastating problem. As a patient of endometriosis stage 3, it was really difficult to have a child but with the help of Lord Krish, I got fertile and conceived within days of the herbal treatment which he sent to me through DHL and before I knew it, my womb was opened and I conceived and was finally pregnant with twins babies. I never believed it was possible after 11 years of marriage. I gave birth to twins, Dale and Diane. I want to say thank you to Lord Krish and to everyone who has helped me both mentally and emotionally through this journey. Lord Krish solved my problem for me and I promised him to manifest his work to other people and friends. His Email to reach out to him is ([email protected])
