When Mums-to-be ask me my must have product for a newborn my first recommendation is always a bedside dropside co-sleeper cot. In my experience the quality of sleep for both for Mum and baby is greatly improved by having baby so close but yet within their own separate bed space to calm any co-sleeping fears. It also makes breastfeeding at night easier. The new Next 2 Me Crib by Chicco is undoubtedly one of the best bedside co-sleeper cots on the market due to it's versatile and portable design. With the imminent arrival of my Little Nephew we were sent a Next 2 Me for my Sister and I to review. Here's what we think!
My sister was expecting assembling the cot to be a mission so we had our Husbands on standby with their screwdrivers in hand but it was so easy to assemble we didn't need any technical assistance. We literally slid the Next 2 Me cot bits out of the box, slotted the stand together then clipped the fabric bed base in place and inserted the mattress. That was pretty much it! It comes with safety straps which clip to the base of the bedside cot. You can then wrap the straps around the bed base or around your divan base to make sure it stays in place. Lockable swivel wheels make it easy to move from room to room as needed.
The Next 2 Me bedside cot is very spacious, much larger than a standard moses basket. This is great because babies tend to grow out of moses baskets them well before the recommended 6 months in their parent's room. It is designed for babies up to 6mths or 9kg (which is pretty big!). Three sides are solid fabric and one mesh allowing for airflow and giving you a good view of baby from a side angle. We were sent a lovely pale grey colour cot with a circles and clouds design on which would look stylish in any room. The clever people at Chicco have made the fabric inside cotton for optimum softness and it is easily removed from the frame to pop in the washing machine.
The Next 2 Me can be used as either a large bassinet style moses basket/travel cot or as a 3 sided co-sleeper cot. To switch between the two styles you simply unzip the fabric at the sides and unclip the front panel from the frame. You then fold the side down and attach it underneath the base, giving you easy access to baby. Even with the side up you can see baby well through the mesh. To lower the side you do need to move the cot away from the bed so you do need to set it up in one position. Just remember you shouldn't leave baby alone when the side is down for safety reasons. To move the cot from room to room easily it has lockable swivel wheels.
You can set the Next 2 Me at 6 different heights to match the height of your bed. And hands down my absolute favourite feature, you can raise one end higher than the other. This is a godsend for refluxy babies who need to sleep with their heads raised (both my girls!) or when baby has a cold and is congested. No more propping cots up on stacks of books like we had to! Also if you have a divan bed like my sister do not fear, the feet turn 90 degrees so they but up perfectly against your divan base. Also the straps are long enough to go all the way around your base securing the cot safely. It is so easy to pack away it can easily be used as a travel cot and comes with travel bag making it super easy to transport and have baby sleeping next to you away from home too
This cot is brilliantly designed and I wish it had been available when my girls were born. I am very impressed with the quality and functionality of the design. My sister cannot wait for her baby boy to arrive and sleep next to her in this beautiful, functional bedside cot. The only downside I can see it that is doesn't rock, but for the price I really wouldn't expect it to.
The Chicco Next 2 Me retails at around £149.99 depending on the colour you choose which is substantially cheaper than other co-sleeper cots in the market and offers fantastic value for money. You can also buy fitted sheets specially designed for the Next 2 Me mattress. Both are available to purchase from Amazon via the links below.

I love the idea of this. We had a crib at the end of the bed and it was hard work, especially in the early days post section, to get in and out of bed to pick up my babies for feeding. This looks fab if you've got the space for it.

We had a Chicco Next 2 Me and it really was great. It lasted my wee one until he was 8 months which was brilliant. My top tip for your sister would be that if you take the bar out of the top of the zip down panel you can have the side up or down without having to move the crib away from the bed. I used to leave it up when I first put Gabe to bed in the evening and then leave it down once I was in bed next to him. #TriedTested

What machine setting and temperature would you recommend to wash this? I've looked on multiple sites including Chicco and can't find an answer it's all very vague and I don't want to ruin it!

I have a delicate wash on my machine which runs at 30 degrees with reduced spinning and that seems to work well for these kind of products

Thank you. I just realised the one I have is an older model and cannot be taken completely off the frame which is a shame and is only hand washable.

Apologies if I've misunderstood, but you don't put the straps all the way round the bed, just through the side of the bed frame. I'll be honest, I never used the straps but made sure there was no gap between the bed and cot. I hope this helps.

Elena, I missed your comment so apologies for the delay. Yes, if you have a divan bed which doesn't have a frame the straps go completely around the base of the bed underneath your mattress and yes they should reach around a king size.
