Moulin Rouge The Musical Review

I was super lucky to receive tickets to see Moulin Rouge the Musical for Christmas from my lovely Mum. I’d heard rave reviews about the show currently playing at the Piccadilly Theatre in the West End based on Baz Lurhmann’s iconic film. Now, I hold my hands up and admit Moulin Rouge it isn’t one of my favourite films (mainly because I’m not a Nicole Kidman fan) but I was super intrigued to see how such a visual movie would transfer to the stage.

Upon entering the auditorium I was completely and utterly blown away by the staging. The whole theatre has been completely transformed into the Moulin Rouge. Get to your seats early as the actors are on stage for about 15minutes before the show starts and along with the music playing the atmosphere is electric.

At the front of the stage the first few rows are laid out like club tables with proper chairs - they are called can can seats. The stage extends out into these rows and behind the first row of can can seats. I wouldn’t recommend the very front of these as you’ll spend half the show turning around to see the actors behind you. But if you want to be completely immersed then you won’t get closer to the action.

We were sat at the end of row C which are classed as premium seats. The stage curves round and hug the audience up to around row E - which makes you feel completely part of the show. The two seats at each end of row C have no seats in front so great legroom.

And the show. Wow. I don't think I have ever been to anything so immersive. The story follows the movie pretty closely with well known tunes weaving together - so even if you haven't seen the movie you'll be able to sing along in your head!

Overall super, super impressed. I hugely recommend sitting close to the action so you can soak up all the atmosphere. Get yourself down to the Moulin Rouge asap!
