How to Transform your Bathroom into a Private Spa

Your home is a place where you should be able to relax. Rather than paying money for a spa break, why not pay to upgrade your home so that you can enjoy spa treatment 24/7 from under your own roof. Here are just a few ways to convert your bathroom into a place of respite.

Freshen up your tub

A new tub can immediately make your bathroom feel more luxurious. Freestanding bathtubs which were once old-fashioned are now in again and can help to make you feel less closed in. Alternatively, you could embrace something a little modern such as a whirlpool tub – there are many on the market such as the Zenith Hydrotherapy Bath which can feel like your own private hot tub.

Try new taps

Give yourself more control over water pressure and temperature when filling the bath by installing some sleek new chrome taps. Companies such as Tap Warehouse have a huge selection of bathroom taps to choose from. You can also consider new taps for your sink – wall-mounted taps are one of the top trends right now.

Upgrade your shower

If you’ve got the room, why not install a walk-in shower? Some homeowners are now also opting for multiple shower heads that can make it easier to cater for different heights. If you haven’t already got a thermostatic power shower, this also could be worth upgrading to. These showers are able to offer a constant water pressure, whilst also maintaining a steady temperature.

Let there be light

A private spa needs to make good use of lighting. Consider an adjustable light that can be dimmed down for when you want a relaxing bath. You could even consider some ambient low-level LED lighting from companies such as Lighting Styles.

Bring some scents

Incorporate some aromatherapy into your bathroom. Oil diffusers can provide constant natural fragrances into the room. You can buy different oils to experiment with from sites such as Essential Oils Direct. On top of oil diffusers, consider growing some fragrant plants in your bathroom. This room is often ideal for many tropical plants that thrive in humid conditions with low sunlight. Jasmine and Gardenia are two examples of plants to try. You can even grow Hawaiian palms in this room. These tropical plants might not only bring a fresh smell to the room – they’ll also dehumidify the air and bring a tropical feel transporting you to a place far away.

Fix up your floor

Ceramic tiles are the best choice of flooring material for the bathroom. They’re good at dealing with the damp and can be easily cleaned. If you’re able to afford it, consider adding underfloor heating. This will not only keep your feet warm but it will help water evaporate. Underfloor heating is a great way of adding value to your home – you’ll likely need to hire a professional to install it however.

Having a candle and soft music is enough to make a huge difference. And moving stuff into storage so it doesn't look cramped x

Lights are very uplifting. I was a bit skeptical at first but we got free with our bath and not only do I love it but the little one loves it too :)

My bathroom would take a lot of work for it to feel relaxing! I'll just be happy to not get in a bath full of toys

I agree that a scented candle and dim lights and perhaps a glass of wine can make all the difference. However I am going to a real spa on wednesday, squeal!
