Little E turned 8 last month and there was only one thing she wanted to do for her birthday: Go Ape. We have a Go Ape centre close to us at Tilgate Park, Crawley and the Tree Top Junior course is suitable for children over 1 metre tall. E had chosen two of her school friends, two cousins and her little sister to join her on the course. For every two under 6yr olds one adult is required to participate. As Little I had just turned 5 Husband volunteered to join in the fun. You have to pay for parking at Tilgate Park so make sure you have change and allow plenty of time to find a space as it can be very busy at the weekends and during school holidays. Upon arrival we all had to read the safety instructions before being sent over to get kitted up in the safety harness and receive a safety briefing from a trained instructor. You must ensure you wear close toed flat shoes when completing the course and gloves are recommended. We picked a really lovely sunny day (who would have thought it in February!) so the kids decided not to wear their gloves. After the safety briefing they completed a small ground level course to get the hang of moving the safety harness around the course then it was up the steps to the real deal. The kids are always attached to the safety system so don't need to worry about them. The course is comprised of lot of different crossings from tree to tree. Wobbly crossings, net bridges and beams to name a few. After they have traversed their way around the course they are rewarded with the ultimate thrill - the zip wire finale! You can do as many circuits as you can within your 1hr timeslot. E had completed the course once before so we knew she would be a dab hand at it but it was Little I's first time and even though she was going up with Husband I fully expected her to bottle it at the last minute. But to my surprise she did the complete opposite - she flew round the course leaving her Dad way behind! And where was I when all this was going on you ask? Well someone had to stay at the bottom with the bags (and the hot chocolate) Go Ape Junior costs from £18 per tarzan for 1 hour. There are 22 courses across England all in stunning locations so there is bound to be one near you. You can also hire a Forest Shelter if you want to lay out a picnic (but we went home for pizza as I wasn't expecting it to be such a nice day!) The kids also got certificates of awesomeness at the end which rounded off our experience.
If you haven't tried Go Ape Tree Top Junior the kids highly recommend it for a great hour of fun outside which won't be forgotten. We received discounted entry to Go Ape Junior for the purposes of review but all opinions are our own.

My husband can't wait until our daughters are old enough to visit Go Ape Junior! He's much more adventurous than me :)

I think my boys would have loved to do this without hesitation. When we lived in the UK, they were not old enough but our daughter was, and we took her to look and asked her and she categorically stated NO WAY!!!

My 3 year old is a daredevil so I think she would love something like this when she's a bit older. Maybe something for her and her dad though

My children went to a Go Ape party and really enjoyed it. It is amazing how brave they are being that high up - braver than me for sure.

There is a new go ape with a junior course due to open near us at Easter which we are really excited about testing out. I've enjoyed doing the adult courses before so looking forward to joining in with my daughter this time.

I would be like you, sitting at the bottom with a hot chocolate! Glad the girls had fun and weren’t scared. It does look like a lot of fun but I know I’d be terrified!xx
