It goes without saying that most women think of motherhood and fashion as being mutually exclusive. Sadly, that just isn’t the case at all! Whether you are carting around a newborn baby or managing a couple of toddlers in tow, there are always ways to keep up with the kids without sacrificing fashion.

Here are some tips on how to be the most fashionable mum in your crowd.

1. Keep It Simple

One of the first things you will learn to do for yourself is to keep your fashion simple. This applies to everything from your hair to your shoes. Choose a trendy hairstyle that suits your face but requires little care. You don’t need to work braids, twists, and up-dos (which are thankfully out of style) to be fashionable and there are plenty of easy-care styles trending at any moment and for any generation. Short cuts often work the best, but longer dos are just as easy as long as you don’t go with elaborate styles requiring daily blowdrys.

2. Comfortable Shoes Are a Must

So what if 5-inch spikes are trending on the runways! Most of those models have never birthed a baby let alone tried to walk through a shopping centre with one. Flats work best, as you probably know, so stick with trainers, flats, low heels or platforms. All the leading designers have comfortable footwear and many of their current selections were designed with busy women and mums in mind.

3. Do Away with the Changing Bag!

Okay, now here’s something you probably won’t hear said too much. There is no reason on earth why moms with infants need to carry a bulky quilted changing bag. Why not check out the selection of trendy Saint Laurent bags found on SSENSE. This is a site where you’ll find high-end fashion offerings from all the currently trending top designers from around the globe. Many St Laurent bags are large enough to double as a changing bag but stylish enough to carry to any formal event. There is no reason to walk around looking like an over-worked, highly stressed mum when you can simply use a little fashion sense. Do away with the nappy bag and carry a trendy over-sized bag instead. Some are large enough to fit just about anything you’ll need for a day away with a baby.

4. Choose Attire That Washes Well

One of the biggest mistakes many fashion-conscious moms make is to wear clothing that needs to be dry cleaned or has special laundering instructions. Typically, you’ll be looking for a synthetic/cotton blend because these hold color well and can be washed in your machine at home. Some you may need to use extra care when drying, but if you follow the designer’s care instructions, you will not need to worry about baby sick or food that somehow finds its way to your lap instead of baby’s mouth. The easier it is to wash your clothes, the more you can pay attention to the latest trends.

There really is no reason to sacrifice style for motherhood. If you take a dose of good common sense and add that to your wardrobe, you can be the best dressed mum in your neighborhood. Also, it might be worth mentioning at this point that high-end designer styles are made with quality materials so you will often find that they wear better for longer periods of time while retaining their shape and fit. See how easy it is to be a fashion-conscious mum? It just takes a little thought. That’s all it takes!
