Pixies and fairies are firm favourites in this house so Little E's eyes lit up when we received this gorgeous little wooden pixie playset from Tobar. The playset (or play toadstool) is a self contained little play world you can pick up and take away with you. The little carry handle makes it easy to transport and the elastic toggle fastening keeps the play set firmly together whilst being easy for little hands to open. Perfect when visiting family who do not have kids toys. Inside the toadstool are two little pixies and a variety of wooden furniture. The toadstool becomes a house with little shelves for upstairs and downstairs. The painted outside provides scenery. The pixies are wooden with felt hats and are very fun and unique. The furniture matches the design with a leaf bed and toadstool furniture. Everything is beautifully painted with a smooth finish. There is also a thick felt leaf and flower which act as the soft furnishings. Little E loves playing with the set. She has named the pixies Pixie and Bom. So far she has been really good at putting the set away in one piece and calls it 'bedtime' for the pixies. They have got up to all kinds of antics and each time she plays they have a different adventure. Pixie is rather bossy and Bom does appear to be an under the thumb pixie husband! This playset really encourages children to explore their imagination and independent play. Considering the high quality the price is very good value item. There are not many toys these days which are made to last but this is one of them. I can see us keeping it for Little E's children to play with. Tobar Wooden Pixie Playset £25 available from Amazon We were sent this playset for the purposes of review but all opinions are our own. Linking up with #wickedwednesdays with #wickedwednesdays http://brummymummyof2.co.uk #sharewithme with letstalkmommy.com and #MMWBH with http://superbusymum.net Lots to report this week. Firstly Little I had her first trip on a train up to The passport office at Victoria with Husband. She was very well behaved on their first solo outing together. She didn't have any milk but they had lunch together on the way home - noodles for Daddy, purée for Little I! The rush appointment was because Husband booked a day trip to France forgetting the littlest member of the family was passportless. So we had to get passport photos pretty quick. This was my job and we went to the ever reliable Snappy Snaps who print them instantly while you wait. The pictures are great, classic 'what the hell is going on here?!?' face. Little I is obsessed with food! She seems to always be hungry and will eat anything. This week we have begun some finger foods and she loves sucking and chewing on pear, peeled grapes and bread. The highchair is becoming a very fun place. The 'dropping a toy off the edge then stare at it on the floor until Mummy picks it up and I repeat immediately' game has started. Joy. Another fun highchair game has been playing with water on the tray. Mostly this is spilt from her water bottle and she loves running her fingers through it and spreading it around the tray. On Sunday we had the much anticipated baptism (more to follow about that in a separate post). The night before Husband and I had no sleep because she seemed very out of sorts but she seemed ok during the service and even had a little snooze towards the end. But during the reception she seemed to go downhill. By the time we arrived home she had developed a hacking cough which was making her breathing laboured. After a particularly bad attack we decided to get her checked out at A&E but as we were putting her in the car she had a coughing fit and couldn't get her breath. Purple faced and eyes bulging she stopped breathing for what felt like an eternity but in reality was probably only a minute. We called an ambulance and were rushed in for investigation. After being admitted to the children's ward overnight we got to see a consultant and it turns out Little I has Laryngomalacia, which is known as a floppy larynx. The soft cartilage in the upper larynx collapses into the airway as the baby inhales partially blocking the airway. This is causing the raspy, heavy breathing noise she has made since birth. On top of this she has developed a cough which is exacerbating the problem and making the airway obstruction more troublesome. It was all very scary but at least now we know exactly what is going on. I am little disappointed the paediatrician we saw earlier in the week didn't pick up on it as it would have saved a lot of worry. She suspected a Hiatus hernia (Husband had one when he was a baby) so we are still going to have a barium X-ray next week to see if she has that too. The treatment for both is simply waiting for their muscles to strengthen as they grow up and in the meantime keeping the proped up to sleep and avoiding too much time laying flat. The floppy larynx should be gone by the time she is 2yrs old and hopefully will only cause her significant problems when she is unwell. That is our 4th visit to A&E this year. Husband and I are considering a season ticket for the car park... I trial ran my outfit for Little I's baptism with the addition of a fascinator. The wonderful staff at Phase Eight found me this outfit (which I can breastfeed/pump from with ease) and I am still in shock I can rock a jumpsuit! Surprisingly flattering. I did have to wear killer heels though. So rare to get a nice, grown up photo with Husband :-) Linking up to Linking up to #magicmoments with theoliversmadhouse.co.uk #whatsthestory at podcastdove.com #FamilyPhotoFriday at thursdayschild-fridaysthoughts.blogspot.co.uk/ Little I had been a bit better this week. Her cough is still there but less pronounced and she isn't being sick anymore. She is still a bit clingy so I have been trying out a ring sling to keep her close to me. She seems to like sitting on my hip which is a major breakthrough as she hated the other slings/carriers I have tried. Another new pastime seems to be falling asleep on her tummy. She has had several naps ok the playmat in between playing sessions. It is nice to see her so relaxed. Weaning is going well and is loving every food we put in front of her. So far her favourites include pear, peach and carrot. She'd eat a lot more if I let her and gets really angry if we eat anything in front of her without feeding her too! She has also been trying out cool boiled water in a sippy cup. I think some is going in! But on the milk front we are still having issues getting her to take expressed milk from a bottle. It was chaotic at the weekend when I tried to attend a wedding without her and she refused the bottle and after 7hrs had to be driven over to me for a feed followed by me leaving early to put her to bed. Stubborn baby!!! Linking up to #sharewithme letstalkmommy.com at #MMWBH superbusymum.net at #babybabble at carsonsmummy.blogspot.co.uk M is for memories. We lost our 10yr old family dog Zacaria this weekend. The loss has hit us hard. I am sharing some memories of Zac with you this week. Linking up to The Alphabet Photography Project at podcastdove.com #alphabetphoto Poorly baby this month so lots of sitting up in the night with her reading. The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty Celia Fitzpatrick has the perfect life. Doting husband, 3 beautiful girls and a booming tupperware business. Things couldn't be better. Until one day she finds an envelope in a dusty shoe box in her loft with the message 'For my Wife - to be opened only in the event of my death' on the front and her whole world is turned upside down. I absolutely loved this book. It isn't a masterpiece of literature but the storyline is perfectly crafted and even in the last few chapters I had no idea how the storylines were going to pull together for an ending. But they do in spectacularly heartbreaking style and the final few pages looking back at what could have been are a real triumph. Definitely one I'll be recommending. 4/5 Bite by Nick Loath When his girlfriend, Erica, disappears into the night Max Carver is desperate to find her and becomes tangled in a plot to unleash a deadly epidemic on the developed world. Criminal activity, revenge and the politics of the pharmaceutical trade all set the scene for a shocking revelation in Erica's diary, linking her to the conspiracy and worse. I am a bit of a medical thriller fan and enjoyed a good Michael Crichton or Robin Cook book growing up. This book had the same pace and style to the writing. I liked the diary entry style flashbacks which built the backstory hinting at who may be behind the outbreak without giving the game away too early in the book. The story moved along very fast keeping me turning the pages and eager to read just one more chapter before putting it down. Always an indicator of a good read. 4/5 Make my wish come true by Fiona Harper Juliet and Gemma. Two sisters who ouldn't be more different. Juliet a divorced single mum of four with a compulsion for routine and perfection. Gemma, a free spirit who won't be tied down with a job that takes her round the world. So when Juliet finally buckles under her misson to plan the perfect Christmas, Gemma offers her the chance to swap lives for 2 weeks. And both sisters discover their perception of the other is not what they imagined. Oh and this is a Mills & Boon so there is a dash of romance along the way! I like to read a good chick flick now and then to mix up my reading and this was very easy to read. Unlike a lot of romance novels the female protagonists were actually very believeable and likeable. The romance wasn't too heavy either. 3/5 Soulless the third book in The Girl in the Box series by Robert Sienna Nolan is 17 and hasn't left her house since she was 5. Her mother has kept her prisoner, locking her in a metal box when she steps out of line. One day her mother leaves for work and doesn't return. Two men break into the house and Sienna discovers she has extraordinary powers. She escapes but is pursued by more than one agency whose motives are not clear. She discovers she is a sucumbus who can drain the peoples' souls through touch. She needs to find her mother to get answers and find out who the other agencies chasing her are and what they want from her. These books are pretty short and I read the third installment even quick than the first two. Sienna has managed to control the trapped souls in her mind through the use of drugs but she still needs to find her mother to find out how to control them herself. In the meantime her estranged Aunt has shown up and revealed herself as a sucumbus but with fewer morals than Sienna. As the Directorare send her on her first mission as an agent Sienna and her new friends need to prove they can be trusted alone. The story has picked up a bit in this book taking the action outside the Directorate and introducing new characters. There are a lot of books in this series so I think I'll have a break and pick up again in a few weeks time 3/5 For Book Club we are reading my choice of book The Girl Who Saved The King of Sweden by Jonas Jonasson On my kindle app I am reading The Half Life of Hannah by Nick Alexander This post is linked to #ThisMonthIRead with mutteringmummy.wordpress.com #readwithme at mamamummymum.co.uk #triedtested with myfamilyfever.co.uk and goingonanadventure.co.uk and AllAboutYou with mama-andmore.com I keep forgetting to join in this project so finally I am linking up this week! My first share is this capture taken by my Uncle Stu of Little E at the window. I am in love with the half shadow on her face. This was taken just after St George's day hence the flag in the background. Linking up to #BWphotoproject with podcastdove.com It is 1 week until Little I's baptism and the countdown is on. In contrast to a Little E's lavish 120 people golf club reception 3 years ago, we are hosting a tea party themed do in the church hall for 70 guests, mainly family and close friends. We thought it would be more cost effective and easier to do a DIY event but we forgot about my obsession with theming. We currently have boxes full of bone china tea sets won from eBay, found in charity shops and borrowed from friends stacked in every corner of the house/ In fact I have a trio (teacup, saucer and side plate) for every single guest. It took he 4hours to unpack, wash and package for transport it all today. I am aware this is madness but once I go down the road of a theme there is no turning back. To add to the atmosphere we have paper doillies, twine and mini pink pens to turn into bunting. China cake platters and wire cake stands. Oh, and a vast selection of exotic teas to rival a top London hotel. The house looks like a warehouse. This week has to run with military precision. My main focus is the cake. I have covered the two fruit cake with marzipan but I still have to ice and decorate which will be time consuming as I have an ambitious design in mind. As the weekend looms I will be making homemade scones to serve along with finger sandwiches and other sweet treats. Decor wise the bunting will be constructed on Saturday when we set up the hall but I have freestanding letters to decoupage and flowers to arrange in teacups, mini teapots and bud vases. It is going to be busy but it will be all worth it to see the theme come together on the day. We have still spent a lot less than hiring the golf club but it works out more expensive than we estimated because when hiring a church hall you have to supply everything from the tablecloths, to the plates to the teaspoons. Luckily I have found a lot of bits in the 99p shop and we have bought the wine (I know it is a tea party but it would be rude not to!) from Lidl saving a small fortune. And it is nice for our guests not to have to put their hands in their pockets for once. I'll update you later on in the week for a progress update and to give you a bit of fashion info on what the All about a Mummy ladies (Me, little E and Little I) will be wearing on the day.
