We’ve been feeding our 7 month old Toy Poodle puppy, Winter, Butternut Box fresh dog food for the past three months and the transformation has been incredible. After bringing him home from the breeder, we continued with the canned dog food he was used to, but he had really, really bad wind, hit and miss digestion and quite severe tear staining under his eyes - so I started researching healthier options. That’s when I discovered Butternut Box, a popular UK dog food subscription that delivers gently cooked (not raw), grain-free meals made with natural, human-grade ingredients. Since transitioning to Butternut Box, his tear stains have completely cleared up, and we’ve also noticed big improvements in his digestion - he now has considerably less wind and perfectly pick-up-able poos! In this post, I’ll share our full Butternut Box review, the benefits we’ve seen, and if you're thinking of trying it, I have an exclusive discount code for readers that gets you 60% off your first box and 30% off your second box - simply visit Butternut Box here and enter discount code AMY4292 - it's that simple! how is butternut box good for dogs?I was drawn to Butternut Box because it offers a healthier, fresher alternative to traditional dog food. Instead of dry kibble or processed canned food, Butternut Box meals are made with fresh, gently cooked, grain-free ingredients that are nutritionally balanced and vet-approved. Every dish is designed to support your dog’s overall health - from digestion and energy to skin, coat, and even dental hygiene. For Winter, the change was pretty immediate. Within a few weeks of switching to Butternut Box, we noticed his tear staining disappearing and it was much safer to sit downwind! Unlike processed food filled with preservatives and additives, Butternut Box uses ingredients you'd recognise from your own kitchen - things like chicken, beef, sweet potatoes, lentils, and herbs. Plus, meals are tailored to your dog’s age, breed, and activity level, so you’re not guessing how much to feed. Each portion is pre-measured and delivered frozen, making it really convenient without compromising on quality. Butternut Box is suitable for dogs of all ages so perfect for puppies and senior dogs too. The All About Dog Food website scores it a whopping 88% for nutrition which is a fantastic score. Compare that to the foods you find in the pet aisle at Tesco and you'll be suprised how little meat many of them contain as they are packed with carb fillers to bulk them out. Don't even get me started on the 'meat derivatives' on the ingredients lists of some of the dogs foods out there. What does that even mean? what’s in Butternut Box dog food? What I love about Butternut Box dog food is the ingredients - it's basically the kind of food I cooked my kids when they were little minus the grains - so foods like lean chicken, turkey, beef and lamb paired with nutritionally rich veggies such a carrots, peas, green beans and sweet potatoes. There are some few herbs in there too and you'll spot the odd blueberry or cranberry in some recipes. They say human grade food used in these recipes and my eldest daughter has tried all Winter's meals (bar the salmon one as she can't stand the smell) and she's given them all a thumbs up - the beef dish reminded her of shepherd's pie... It's also great to see so many different recipes on offer - 11 in total with 7 being chicken free so if you have a poultry allergy (which a lot of poodles/doodles and other breeds can suffer with) there is still tons of options for variety. There's even a veggie option made from eggs and cheese. Firm favourites in our house are Wham Bam Lamb and Pork of the Town. As a 'complete food' you don't need to worry about supplementing your dogs diet with anything else. How much does Butternut Box cost?I'll be completely honest here - fresh dog food subscription services here in the UK are not a cheap way to feed your dog. Saying that, Butternut Box is not the most expensive option out there. The cost all depends on the size of your dog, how much exercise they get, how many treats you give them and if you want to feed exclusively Butternut Box or add it as a topper to their current food. So hard to be precise, but ball park figures if you are exclusively feeding Butternut Box to an average adult dog you are looking at around £1.60 a day for a 3kg dog, £2.00 a day for a 6kg dog, £3.00 a day for a 12kg dog, £3.40 a day for a 20kg dog, £5.00 a day for a 30kg dog. Winter is currently 6kg but Puppies need a bit more food so it's slightly more expensive for his food at roughly £2.40 per day. He shouldn't get much bigger now - maybe up to 8kg so I don't expect his portion size to increase much. Don't forget my Butternut Box discount code which gets you 60% off your first box and 30% off your second box - so you can try Butternut Box at a heavily discounted price to see if your pooch takes to it. Butternut Box delivery experienceSo the way Butternut Box subscription works is that you start by filling out a short online questionnaire with your dog’s breed, age, weight, activity level, and dietary needs. This helps Butternut Box create a personalised meal plan tailored to your pup. Based on your answers, you’ll receive a custom feeding plan with recommended portion sizes and a breakdown of what’s in the meals. You can choose from a variety of recipes (and you can change these each delivery easily in the app so you aren't stuck with the same meals all the time). Meals arrive frozen and perfectly portioned in eco-friendly, insulated packaging. If you aren't home they can be left on your doorstep and should be absolutely fine for a while as long as you get them in the freezer the same day. You simply store them in your freezer and defrost what you need as you need it. Pouches last months in the freezer and 5 days defrosted in your fridge. Once opened you should use a pouch within 2 days. You’re in full control of your plan. You can pause, skip, change recipes, or cancel anytime through your online account (the app is super easy to use too). They also send email reminders before your next delivery ships, so there are no surprises. TASTY TREATSButternut Box also sell as range of dog treats which you can add to your delivery as regular items or one offs. Everything from mini training treats to peanut butter biscuits to Yonks bars. We've tried a few and the venison Sausies are Winter's absolute favourite. We chop up the mini sausages and use them as super high value treats during recall training. Next up we are trying the Bone Broth to freeze into pupsicles for the hotter weather! Final Thoughts: Would I Recommend Butternut Box?Yes - without a doubt, I’d recommend Butternut Box to any dog owner looking to improve their pup’s health and mealtime happiness. We’ve seen real, visible results with Winter since switching from canned food to fresh. Winter is super excited at meal times and I am reassured knowing his food is made with ingredients I actually recognise - no weird fillers or mystery meat. Plus, the subscription is super convenient, and the flexibility makes it easy to pause or tweak whenever you need. Butternut box has been a disaster for my dog. He was a thin dog when (on recommendation) I started feeding him Butternut Box. He has lost over 3 kg and is now severely under-weight.

I'm sorry to hear this. No problems at all with our pup and he is thriving - It is a recommended amount, but i guess like with children they all need slightly different anounts depending on their metabolism and energy levels. You know your pup best.
