Little I has been home a month today and we are just about starting to see a vague routine forming through the mist of sleep deprivation, exploded poo and projectile vomit. It would appear that Little I likes to sleep and feed all day then has her 'awake' time from 6pm - 10pm. During this time she is generally grizzly and wants to be held up high most of the time, like she is surveying her kingdom. According to the Internet early evening is classic colic time for little 'uns so perhaps she has a mild case of that. It means she is awake and grizzly for Little E's bedtime and our dinner which makes logistics tricky but we cope. She then tends to sleep a 4 hour stretch followed by an hour/hour and a half feed then a 2-3hr sleep before the next feed. The feed seems to take forever compared to Little E who popped off at 20mins and fell straight back off to sleep. But it means if I sleep when she sleeps at night I can realistically get 6-7hrs in. Completely survivable and doable on my own now Husband is back at work. The problem is Little E has been walking up at 5.30am insisting it is morning and ruining my sleep plan! So this week we have been trying the Groclock sleep trainer to push her back to a 6.30am wake up. We've used it all week and it has been a bit of a battle to keep her in bed until the sun rises on the clock. However, two mornings she woke up after the sun and the excitement she exhibited has given me hope that with a little perseverance she will get the hang of it. It is still early days but we are getting there! Clearly she isn't very impressed by our spring garden and has decided to add a splash of colour to the pots using my washing pegs. When I spotted the sculpture she just shrugged and said she was planting flowers as if it was the most natural thing in the world... This post is linked to #minicreations linky each week on twitter @kidGLloves To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Oliver Jeffers' beautiful children's book Catch a Star we were sent a copy to review along with some star shaped goodies. Little E has been enjoying the activity sheets featuring the characters in the book and it has given us some great, easy activites to do in the afternoons whilst we are housebound. Keep an eye on the blog next week for the book review! We were sent these items for review but all opinions are our own. Catch a Star 10th anniversary edition available now £12.99 This post is linked to the #creativechallenge linky each Wednesday on Twitter with @BecomingaSAHM I cannot believe Little I is a month old!!! It has absolutely flown by. We've had a much calmer week. Husband had most of the week off work so we were able to have some family time and get out of the house a bit. I have been practising my breastfeeding in public. It is still touch and go whether I flash a boob but we had some successful feeds and now the nipple thrush is under control the whole thing is easier. Little I still likes to feed for a long time at each sitting. Little E never drank this much so I wonder if bubba is a 'hungry baby'. I know she is getting plenty of milk because she is huge! She has grown out of two sizes of babygrow now. I can't get to baby clinic today because I can't drive yet but I suspect she is at least 8lb now if not more. I'll attempt weighing her on the bathroom scales later! She is still very refluxy and I've ended up covered in milk on many occasions. We are sleeping better and Little I actually slept for a 5hr stretch one night which was amazing but appears to be a fluke! Little E is still been getting up at the crack of dawn do we've invested in a Groclock. It is early days but we are hoping it'll help her to stay in bed until a respectable hour. To combat this early start I have been going to bed at 9pm to get an extra hour in. I've been falling asleep in front of the TV so clearly I need it! My scar is healing well despite the knot end which hasn't healed up. Instead of closing up like a zip that end appears to be healing from the inside upwards. My back has been the real issue. Since the fall down the stairs my coccyx has been killing me so I've been regularly taking ibuprofen to help with the inflammation but I know it is going to take a long time to get better which is a pain. Today marks the start of my healthy eating regime - no more snacking for me just healthy food to support the breastfeeding. I haven't plucked up the courage to weigh myself yet but I will at some point this week so I know where I am. This post is linked to the weekly #PoCoLo and #binkylinky linkies each Friday on Twitter Having a toddler is a bit like owning a dog. If you don't walk them twice a day they start pacing up and down and clawing at the furniture. With the new baby arriving and my limited mobility due to the C section recovery we have been housebound for most of the past month. This has not been good for toddler relations. Just when I was dreading Husband's return to work and being trapped indoors with the caged animal the rain finally cleared and the Spring weather arrived and with it came the power to open up the garden. Our garden is a boring square patch of grass overlooking fields but to Little E it is a magical place where anything is possible. She can spend hours mooching about, getting out every single toy from her toy shed and chatting to the cows who often appear at the fence. She takes her mini chairs to the end of the garden and sits watching the world. One of her favourite past times is eating snacks in her den made from a mini sun tent which she is clearly too big for now. We are planning on buying her a Wendy house this summer so she can have a proper little house to play pretend in but for now that simple patch of green is entertainment enough and is helping us keep our sanity. These cookies are always a big hit and their versatility means the basic recipe can be adapted to make a different flavour cookie every time. If you overcook them they become more like biscuits and still taste delicious so you can't really go wrong! Ingredients 12oz self raising flour 10oz soft butter or margarine 8oz caster sugar About 2oz of whatever filling you fancy (chocolate drops, smarties, raisins, chopped nuts, chocolate orange segments, fudge chunks, Nutella - the possibilities are endless. If you fancy add some spices such a a touch of cinnamon or some vanilla essence) 1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees 2. Mix everything together in a bowl and use your hands to kneed it together. It shouldn't be crumbly so if needed add a little extra butter/margarine. 3. Take some dough and roll it into a ball about the size of a ping pong ball and flatten it slightly to form a circle about 1.5cm thick. 4. Place on greased baking tray leaving space between each one for them to spread. 5. Depending how large you make them you should be able to make approx 20 cookies. 6. Bake in the oven for approx 15mins 7. Remove from oven and after a few minutes ransfer to a wire rack for cooling. If you want to be really indulgent dunk half the cookies in melted chocolate and dust with edible glitter - yum! Linking up to #recipeoftheweek over at www.amummytoo.co.uk and Share it Sunday with Oh so Amelia blog www.ohsoamelia.com A new linky on twitter has prompted me to take a shelfie - which is like a selfie but is a summary of your life at that moment as opposed to a picture of yourself. This has taken some thinking about and requires a little explanation because not everything is obvious! The books are easy; I'm teaching myself how to use my DSLR camera, I love to bake and love to read, especially thrillers. I read most of my books on my phone or iPad now but I like to have a 'real book' on the go. I have just had my second baby hence the baby journal and the princess tiara belongs to my three year old toddler. The champagne is the bottle from Husband's proposal picnic and the butterfly canvas is one of our wedding favours as I'm a little obsessed with butterflies! Finally the Lansinoh cream is because I am currently spending every moment of the day/night breastfeeding! The only thing I couldn't photograph is my love of TV dramas such as Breaking Bad and House of Cards because I watch them on Netflix!
