Little E has been eating us out of house and home lately. I feel like all I do is feed her! There is only so much fruit, raisins and carrot sticks she can consume so I have been trying out a few of the ready to eat snacks available to save my sanity, (especially when we are out) and I will be sharing the results in a series of reviews. Little E is quite excited at the prospect of being chief tester. Astro Bites by Nairns These little fruity wholegrain oat biscuits contain 40% less sugar than your typical kid's biscuit. That gets a thumbs up! They have little bits of cranberry and raisin in giving them their berry taste. Little E loves them because they are shaped like cosmic rockets, planets and spaceships. They taste pretty good too. I could happily eat a packet. For £1.59 you get 5 mini bags in the box which works out at 32p per bag. Great value. We will be buying these again. You can find them in most of the leading supermarkets. Fruit Frollipops by Fruit Bowl These lollipops are made from fruit juice and contain no artificial ingredients. Each one is equivalent to 1 of your child's 5 a day. Luckily my girls eat loads of fruit and veg so this isn't usually a consideration but I know lots of mums who have to battle to get their kids to eat fruit and veg. They do contain a lot of sugar (it is naturally occurring fruit sugar but it is still a lot of sugar) so I wouldn't give Little E them on a daily basis but great as an alternative to a chocolate treat. They are available in two flavours, apple and strawberry, and each is a unique 3D shape, apple snakes and strawberry rockets, which are a lot of fun. Unfortunately Little E doesn't like them! They taste good but she doesn't like the wobbly, jelly like consistency of the Frollipop. Which is odd because she loves jelly. We have persisted and tried both flavours a few times but she just can't get past the texture. They cost £2.50 for a pack of 5 (each individually wrapped) which is 50p per Frollipop available from Sainsbury's. Has your child got a favourite snack you can recommend for us to test? The healthier the better but I'm not averse to the odd cheeky treat. Little I was born in February completing our little family and changing the dynamic of day to day life. It was also a year for a big decision. We took the plunge and decided I would not return to my job after my maternity leave. Gulp! So what does 2015 hold? Undoubtably it will be a very busy year so I have decided to set myself some plans and goals to help me focus on my health, work, family and blogging. Health I am bridesmaid at my sister-in-law's wedding in April. This has given me real incentive to get in shape. I lost over 1 stone of baby weight in 2014 which was great but I want to really focus and aim to lose a further 2 stone by the wedding. I am trying a hormone balancing fat loss plan which basically is a high protein, low carb diet which balances your blood sugar throughout the day avoiding spikes and troughs. I am combining this with two interval training sessions a week and a Pilates session. It is a tall order but I am determined and Husband is on board with the plan which is a massive support. Work So I am officially unemployed for the first time in my life since University. It is rather scary but exciting at the same time. I love the fact that I can devote my time to my girls but I need to so something for myself too. I want to go back to my art degree and do something with that. I love making art from fabric so that is where I shall start. Family Little E's behaviour has deteriorated since Little I arrived. She is hyperactive at the best of times but having my attention split has caused her to loose focus very quickly. This year I want to focus her energy productively by tightly scheduling our week so she always has something to occupy her time. She starts school in September which blows my mind but it'll challenge her and help her concentration. Husband works crazy hours but I want us to get back into the habit of taking time together. Our diaries are crazy until the wedding in April but after that I want us to plan a night out at least once a month. Blog My blog is incredibly important. It gives me the space to unload my brain and it gives us some fantastic opportunities. I want to be more interactive this year, commenting more on other blogs and keeping on top of comments left on my own. I would like to try and double my visitor numbers by the end of the year. This will require better scheduling of posts and keeping my content dynamic. So 7 days into 2015 how is it going? Well I've lost 1lb in the last few days, I've got back into my blog posting and Little E is re-settled at pre-school. I need to focus on the work plan and structuring our schedule for the next few weeks. I am looking forward to the next 51 weeks! December was a month of madness so as a result only one book was read. But boy was it a good one. Dead Man Walking by Paul Finch Ten years ago prolific serial killer, The Stranger, staked Dartmoor. Shot and believed dead he was never heard from again... When a brutal attack on two hikers shows startling resemblance to The Stranger's MO, DS Mark Hekenburg is drawn into a deadly game in which The Stranger holds all the cards. This is the 4th DS Heckenburg book but it is my introduction to the series. And after this book I'll certainly be reading the rest. I don't want to give too much away as this thriller really is an edge of your seat book which shocks at every turn and keeps you guessing constantly. I like Heck, he reminds me of Luther, and the character is very believable. The writing style is excellent and fast paced. If you like books which make you hold your breath this is for you. 4.5/5
